Breast implants are prostheses that increase the volume of the breasts. It is most often a cosmetic surgery operation and thus makes it possible to reshape the neckline and the shape of the breasts. However, in some cases, the placement of implants can correct a malformation or asymmetry of the breast.
Today there are several types of implants depending on the liquid they contain and their outer shell.
Two different substances are used to reproduce the texture of the breasts:
- Silicone gel implants: their shape remains stable and returns to its initial shape even after moderate pressure. In addition, its consistency is less fluid, limiting the risk of spreading the gel in the event of rupture of the envelope.
- Saline implants: these implants are, today, very rarely used by surgeons. Indeed, they give an unnatural appearance to the chest. The breast then has a liquid appearance and folds visible under the skin may appear.
The composition of the envelope of breast implants is also very important. Silicone elastomer shells make it easier to fit your implants and guarantee their solidity.
