Rhinoplasty: Recovering a pretty nose

In cosmetic surgery, rhinoplasty is one of the most commonly performed procedures for both women and men. Indeed, the nose plays an important role in the character traits of your face. Often too marked or damaged, the nose can be a major source of aesthetic complexes. It is possible to regain your well-being through rhinoplasty.

The rhinoplasty technique

Rhinoplasty is a cosmetic surgery of the nose. It consists of reshaping or reconstructing a nose.

Several causes can lead patients to resort to this operation. For aesthetic causes. If you do not like the shape of your nose, whether you have a curved, aquiline, turned up, flattened or camouflaged nose, you can resort to such an operation. But rhinoplasty can also correct more important cosmetic abnormalities, such as a congenital abnormality. Moreover, in some cases, rhinoplasty can be performed on a patient who, following an accident or an ablation, wishes to have a nose reconstructed. Heavier, it allows the patient to regain a real sense of well-being. We will talk more about restorative rhinoplasty.

Whatever your reason for wanting to have a rhinoplasty, it is a radical and definitive solution to correct the aesthetic abnormalities of the nose and harmonize facial features and it is important to think carefully before making a decision.

The rhinoplasty: the process of the operation

Before surgery, it is essential to make an appointment with your surgeon for a first consultation. You will have the opportunity to express your aesthetic desires and your surgeon will make a precise diagnosis of your condition. He will evaluate all contraindications to make sure that all the lights are open to perform such an operation.

During rhinoplasty, the surgeon will make incisions inside the patient’s nose, at the level of each nostril. In some cases, an incision may be made on the outside of the nose, across what we call the columella, so that the surgeon has easier access to the nasal structure. Once the incisions have been made, the surgeon will be able to reshape the structure of your nose :

  • Reduce a bump
  • Pull up or stretch the tip of the nose.
  • Refine the tip of the nose
  • Reduce a nose that is too long or too wide.
  • Correct a deviated nose.
  • To improve the appearance of the bridge of the nose.
  • Reconstruct an entire nose: tissues, mucous membranes, cartilage and bone structure.

After a rhinoplasty, the patient will have to wear a plaster cast or a splint to protect the nose. The appearance of edema and bruising will occur after the procedure and will diminish over time. The patient may have a slight loss of smell and taste. This is due to inflammation of the mucous membranes of the nose. Rest assured, this is temporary. The patient will have to consider resuming social and professional activities only 10 days after the rhinoplasty.

Rhinoplasty: anesthesia, operation and hospitalization

Rhinoplasty is performed under general anesthesia. The duration of the operation is estimated at 1h30 and 3 hours. One night of hospitalization is necessary, the medical team will thus be able to check your state of health.

Rhinoplasty: the results

The results obtained following a rhinoplasty appear progressively. Some changes are visible quickly. The disappearance of a bump is evident as soon as the splint is removed and a more convincing result can begin to be judged after two to three months. The patient will have to be patient and wait 6 months to a year for the final result.

Why this length of time? Simply because the skin that covers the bony and cartilaginous structure of the nose must readjust to the new shape of the nose. The time it takes for the skin to retract depends both on the way it heals and on its elasticity. Thus, the evolution will be faster for thin skins than for thick skins. Age also plays an important role, since the younger you are, the more elastic your skin is.

The aim is to obtain a nasal appendage in accordance with the patient’s wishes, to respect the proportions between the different parts of the nose so that it fits naturally into the face.

It should be noted that if the patient is not satisfied, it is possible to make a touch-up after one year.
